What I learn about Oracle Database Training?

Hi all!!!

Let’s start by introduce myself, Rahmat Sharifuddin Bin Saari is the name given to me by my lovely parents. Born in 1993 and youngest son in the family. That briefly about myself.

So how I get involved in this Oracle Database Training? This training actually introduce to me by my friend in the night of Ramadan Open house at my parents. Now it’s bring to us a couple question to our mind such as, what is this training? What it actually do offer to me? And who other parties involve?

This training is called “GBS Iskandar Campus Connect - Oracle Training and Certification” conducted by i2M, a fully-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and working hand-in-hand together with UTM and VTC company. It is a program to introduce participants to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts, the OSA approach to integration, and the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g products that support and SOA implementation.
See the word GBS Iskandar in the title, it is a specialized programmed to facilitate businesses to locate GBS Operations in Iskandar Puteri, Iskandar Malaysia. The programmed is managed by i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd (i2M ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the Malaysian government’s investment arm. With GBS ISKANDAR, companies will be able to enjoy expert facilitation in order to meet their GBS location requirements, covering key areas such as talent, infrastructure, live ability and incentives. Additionally, qualified companies will enjoy privileged access to customized incentives provided by GBS Iskandar.

Okay that’s briefly to answer the question earlier. Now after the training one month in class and another two months in company, I’ve learned so many things about the Oracle Database 12c. It’s can be conclude into several part, architecture, installation, configuration, and other Oracle product that can be use along with it.

Oracle Database 12c Architecture

One of new features in Oracle Database 12c is Multitenant option. More of the detail can be found in the Oracle Database Online Documentation, basically multitenant architecture enables Oracle Database to function as multitenant container database (CDB) for one or more pluggable database (PDB). PDBs is a portable collection of schemas, schema objects, and non-schema objects that appears to an Oracle Net client as a non-CDB. Non-CDB can be interpret as single database, before Oracle Database 12c, all database were non-CDBs.

In CBD has following containers:
·         Exactly one root
o   It contains Oracle-supplied metadata and common users.

·         Exactly one seed PDB
o   It system-supplied template for create new PDBs.

·         Zero or more created PDBs
o   PDBs that created by user contains data and code required for specific set of features.

Example of CDBs with 2 PDBs.

That a little bit of Oracle Database 12c new features that is multitenant. Read more on multitenant architecture in Oracle websites.

Oracle Database 12c Installation

The installation is quite straightforward for different type of Operating System (OS). It consists of get the required version of software packages, copy or store to OS, unzip it and start the installation. It will prompt the required information such as installation location, instance name and so forth as the image below.
The installer will do perquisite check and if success it will go to another page for summary. In this page we can save the response file contains our information of selected option and location.

Oracle Database 12c Configuration

In the Oracle Database 12c we can configure as what we wanted. Such as:

·         Initialize Parameter.
·         Archiving mode.
·         Create users (common and local).
·         Set roles for user.
·         Set privilege for user.

That little bit on what we can configure in Oracle Database 12c.

Other Oracle Product

For this section I will tell about Oracle Golden Gate (OGG) because it related to my assignment in this training. It’s actually a software that support real time data integration and replication for databases. It’s basically need a source and target to work with. Source is by mean the database that we want to do the process of replication while the target is database that will be destination of data. The source and target can be in same host or different host and it can be many source and one target or likewise.

In OGG, we will have manager to setup all those we need such as:

·         Create local and remote trail files.
·         Create checkpoint table in database.
·         Create extract group, function as extracting what we want in source, eg. Table, schema.
·         Create replicat group, function as replicate what we send from extract.
·         Create wallet to encrypt the encryption key over that secure data over the network.
·         Create credential store manages user IDs and their encrypted password for interact to local database.

So above is little bit of function has in OGG, for more detail read on Oracle Website or you can contact with the expert in this fields.
